Basic Settings

Permute comes with a lot of different settings. See below for various setting sections.

General Settings

In general settings you can adjust what actions should Permute perform when done processing files. Additionally, it includes performance options.

If you enable Low power mode, Permute will limit the number of cores it uses. It also automatically limits the number of concurrent conversions to just one. Please note that this will severely impact the speed of some conversions. It does not affect many hardware-accelerated conversions where the power consumption is fully handled by macOS and cannot be affected.

Destination

Aside from the obvious option to select destination for the conversions, this settings pane includes the following options:

  • Process folders recursively - affects Permute’s behavior when you drop a folder onto it. If this is not enabled, then only the files directly in the folder are processed. If enabled, Permute will go through the entire folder hierarchy within.
  • Preserve subfolder hierarchy - if enabled, Permute will re-create the folder hierachy from the source in the destination. For example, if you drop a folder which contains Subfolder > Images > Image.png, in the destination, Permute will put the converted image file under Subfolder > Images.
  • Automatically start conversions from external sources - if enabled, files added via automation are started automatically. See Automation help article for more information.

Subtitles

Permute can automatically detect external subtitle files within the same folder as the source file (e.g. .srt). This settings pane allows you to modify this behavior. Please see the Subtitles help article for more information.
